Fall and Winter Seasonal Tea Drinks

With the Summer season fading away it’s time to rejoice in the activities we love to do in the Fall and Winter seasons.  Apple picking, pumpkin carving, lovely hikes to view the foliage, skiing, sledding, snowshoeing and so much more.  Part of the joy at this time of year is the season change in our diets.  Gone are the fresh fruits and salads of summer – bring on hearty stews and the aroma of freshly baked goodies!  Below are a few recipes to add to your cool weather tea drinking repertoire.

London Fog with Creamy Earl Grey Tea

Creamy Earl Grey London Fog

2 tsp Creamy Earl Grey tea
8 oz water

8 oz milk (regular, coconut, almond – your choice)
½ tsp sugar (if desired)

Brew tea for 3-5 minutes then strain.

In a small  saucepan, heat the milk and whisk until frothy. Add 4oz milk to 4oz tea. Top with whipped cream and fresh grated nutmeg. This can be sweetened if desired.

St Nicks Black Tea Latte

St. Nick’s Tea Latte
2 tsp St. Nick’s Black Tea
½ cup water
1 cup almond milk (or milk, soy milk, etc).
1 ½ tsp. sugar (to taste)
Whipped cream
Cinnamon

Boil water and pour over St. Nick’s Black Tea. Steep for 4 minutes, then strain in to a mug. Stir in sugar, top with whipped cream and cinnamon.  Enjoy!

Chai Nog
2 cups water
4 tsp Herbal Chai Masala
Eggnog
Nutmeg

Put herbs and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Strain and chill.

Fill an 8oz glass with 1/2 egg nog and 1/2 chilled Herbal Masala. Sprinkle with nutmeg and enjoy!

Mulling Spice

Mulled Cider: Place 4 cups of apple cider, wine or brewed tea in a saucepan and add 2 Tbsp of Mulling Spice Blend. Simmer for 20 minutes. Enjoy!

Mulled Wine: Place 4 cups of red wine in a saucepan add 1/2 cup sugar and 2 Tbsp of Mulling Spice Blend. Simmer for 20 minutes. Enjoy!

Herbal Chai
1 cup water
2 tsp Herbal Chai Masala
1 cup milk
2 tsp sugar
Place water and herbs in a saucepan on the stove and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 9 minutes.
After 9 minutes, add the milk and sugar, stir, and simmer for 1 more minute.
Strain and enjoy!

TEA VARIATION: Follow (1) above but only simmer for 7 minutes.

Add the milk and sugar (as above) and 2 tsp. of your choice of tea (we prefer Indian Black teas, but you can also try a Green tea, Rooibos or Tulsi). Simmer for 3 minutes. Strain and enjoy!

This blend is open to many variations. You can alter the type of tea, sweetener or milk to concoct your own delicious beverage.

If you prefer a dairy-free version, simmer the herbs in water on the stovetop for 10 minutes and then strain.
