Citral Bee - Lavender Lemon Herbal Blend

Lavender: The Hot Herb of 2024

So lavender is the hot “new” herb for 2024?  Recorded data shows the use of lavender for healing properties, in perfumery and cooking back in 77AD! It’s popularity has never dwindled, however chefs, bakers, and baristas have elevated this aromatic herb to new culinary heights recently. For tea companies, the marriage of lavender with teas and other herbs is nothing new.  Many of us have incorporated lavender into our tea blends for many years, as well as created culinary recipes with those blends.     The first blend we created with lavender was an herbal concoction called Lavender Lace that we introduced in 1993.   Lavender Lace       The following year in 1994 we introduced Victorian Earl Grey which combines the ever popular Earl Grey with roses, […]

Banana Bread with Caramel Walnut Shortbread Tea

I love banana bread.  I don’t make it often, but I love it.  Due to the infrequency of baking this treat I think I forget how yummy it is.  That is until it comes out of the oven, onto my plate and into my mouth!   I was so happy when I realized today that we had a couple of bananas that were a little past their prime.   I decided to make this baking event into a blog post so I could have an excuse when my calorie conscious partner came home from work.  He was not surprised when he was bowled over by the smell of fresh baked banana bread as he walked through the front door.  His only comment “I thought you’d be baking.  You seemed […]

Ben’s Butternut Squash and Apple Soup with Nepal Tea

One of the great benefits to having a Summer garden is being able to enjoy the splendor of your efforts in the Fall and Winter.  We were able to put up potatoes, onions, squash, apples, carrots and garlic as well as  lots of produce that we froze and canned.  The apples that haven’t been pressed into cider have been looking a little sad, so we found this fantastic recipe for Butternut Squash and apples that is heavenly.  And when I say “we” I don’t actually mean “me” since I had nothing to do with this for the most part.  I simply brewed the tea for the recipe then went back to work and waited for dinner.  It was worth the wait!  I hope you enjoy this soup as […]

Blueberry season is slowly dwindling to a close unfortunately but hopefully you were able to get out and pick some of these delicious berries to eat and to freeze.   I recently went blueberry picking on a  lovely summer morning and picked 6 quarts.  Yum!  The farm handed out a recipe booklet when we left and, among the tasty treats they wrote about, I found this muffin recipe.  It’s incredibly delicious and I hope you enjoy them! Orange Cranberry Vegan “Jello”

I have to confess, when prompted to try a recipe for tea jello, I wasn’t sure I was interested. I’m a vegetarian, so the thought of a dessert with gelatin was not appealing. However, a quick search on the internet showed me that a vegetarian option was really quite easy. So off I went to the store and bought agar-agar  to make this dessert. Fun Agar facts: It sets at room temperature Agar makes you feel full, so it may be helpful to consume when dieting It’s not from an animal! I found quite a few fun websites with jello recipes. One, The Jello Mold Mistress , has beautiful looking recipes. Most are not vegetarian, but I’m sure they can be adapted, and the ones that are vegetarian […]
